Biopharmaceutical company seeking a Senior Director, Marketing in Rare Disease. Company objective is to provide patients with therapeutic relief in serious diseases with high unmet medical need.  We focus on clinical-stage programs based on molecules with a history of clinical use (well-established safety and tolerability) and either initial human activity or efficacy data (proof of concept) or a strong scientific rationale.  This allows us to identify molecules where clinical development can be swift (trials with evaluation windows of weeks or months) and cost effective.

Furthermore, Company pipeline, with both commercial products for the treatment of a rare disease as well as promising clinical-stage programs for the treatment of a rare dermatology condition are just of the few innovations ongoing with successful future patient treatments.

The Senior Director of Marketing will be a key member of the U.S. Commercial Leadership Team.  This person will be responsible for building and leading the U.S. Marketing Team, and for leading company’s first commercial launches in the U.S. market.  They will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the culture, communication, and dynamics of a growing commercial organization.  The role will report to the Senior Vice President and Head of U.S. Commercial Operations.

 

 

 

  • Lead the U.S. launch of a product for patients living with a rare, inherited metabolic disorder that causes an abnormal build-up of protein in the body
    • When untreated, this rare disease can cause brain damage, cognitive deficits, behavioral symptoms, and seizures
  • Establish a clear vision for the launch that complements company’s future goal of becoming a fully integrated specialty/rare disease therapeutics company
  • Lead all pre-launch and post-launch marketing activities in partnership with the U.S. Sales Director, Patient Access Lead, and Europe Marketing Director
  • Develop and confirm product’s positioning, value proposition, and messaging in alignment with the established positioning and messaging in Europe
  • Finalize target patient segments and ensure consistency between HCP and patient messaging
  • Conduct outreach to KOLs, leading metabolic institutions, and patient advocacy groups to build effective partnerships for HCP and patient education
  • Confirm the optimal marketing mix (HCP/patient, printed/digital, etc.) and effectively manage all marketing spend in line with the approved budget
  • Ensure the appropriate execution of all marketing tactics and programs, with clear established metrics to achieve quarterly and annual sales targets
  • Align with the U.S. Sales Director on key sales force KPIs – promotional material utilization, reach and frequency, product utilization, etc.
  • Launch a new internal system (e.g. Veeva Vault content mgmt. platform for content and data) for the development of future promotional materials:
    • Serve as the primary liaison with the 3rd party service provider, negotiating terms and pricing
    • Ensure training for all appropriate individuals
    • Establish clear metrics and guidelines for the PRC review process, maintaining ongoing communication with all PRC members
  • Develop and lead an effective sales training/on-boarding program for disease state and launch product.
  • Create and lead the annual marketing/brand planning process to ensure alignment on key strategies and tactics for the following year
  • Support lifecycle planning and the forecasting process for all products
  • Lead the launch of future therapeutics in the rare metabolics space, as appropriate
  • Hire and lead a team of two (2) professionals to plan and execute all marketing tactics
    • Provide effective coaching, feedback, motivation, and career development on an ongoing basis
  • Build effective cross-functional partnerships with Sales, Patient Access, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, and European Marketing
  • Provide quarterly updates/business reviews to the Executive Leadership Team and weekly/bi-weekly launch updates to the U.S. Commercial Leadership Team

 

  • BA/BS degree required; MBA degree strongly preferred
  • 8 – 10+ years of U.S. commercial experience (sales, sales management, marketing, commercial strategy) and 3 – 5+ years of U.S. Marketing experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on rare disease, metabolics, and specialty neurology/dermatology
  • Previous launch experience required
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of direct management experience
  • Effective leadership, management, and teamwork skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proactive cross-functional communicator
  • Proven record of sales and marketing success in target therapeutic areas
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and direction
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing start-up environment
  • Strong desire and vision to build a new organization with a clear vision for the future
  • Required Travel:  20-25% with periodic international travel

Location:

  • For an initial period of time, the role will be home-based remote
  • During this time, travel within the tri-state area (NJ/NY/CT) will be required 1-2 times/month for team meetings and planning sessions
  • A U.S. commercial office will be opened in 1H 2023 in the tri-state area
  • Once this office is opened, 2-3 days per week should be spent working in the office
